Research

Dr. Josiah Hester is a computer scientist working at the intersection of sustainability, systems, and Indigenous innovation. He leads Ka Moamoa, a lab focused on reducing the carbon cost of computing through battery-free devices, intermittent computing, and sustainable sensing. Informed by his Native Hawaiian heritage, Dr. Hester designs resilient technologies for health, conservation, and education—ensuring access, equity, and environmental stewardship in the future of computing.
